The decision of inaugurating an education online learning system in the form of a Virtual Learning Academy was tested on 6 students prior to the announcement. These six students were expelled from their institutes, but managed to keep up with their class work through the aforementioned education online learning system. The system proved to be a success, and is now being offered to students throughout the district to make up for their losses.
According to the Superintendent of Schools, Joseph Erardi Jr., “The cost of hiring a tutor to mentor students online is approximately $11,400, but it is the responsibility of the district to provide expelled students with enough opportunities to keep up with their studies. The Virtual Learning Academy will cost $1,250 for each student and will teach five courses in one year”.
The use of education online learning is not new in the United States. In fact many other states, including Connecticut, have taken it up seriously. There are numerous institutes, including both private and government schools, that are offering education online learning opportunities. Some of them even allow students to use computers on campus for studies. However, this particular Virtual Learning Academy of Southington won’t allow expelled students to enter the school premises. They are free to study from wherever they want using a computer, but not within the premises. Students would still remain expelled and this is just an opportunity for them to follow up with their courses.
Major and minor changes are still being made to the education online learning system platform to ensure that it is not being use for unfair means. Generally, such systems of education online learning come with a great potential of cheating and this is what the administration is looking into right now. The challenge is to create an education online learning system that minimizes the chances of cheating, especially that which entitles getting the work done by someone else.
The most common cause of expulsion is the usage of drugs. According to sources, students today are more careful about the usage of drugs, which is a good thing as they are becoming more responsible day by day. Even if a student is expelled from school, that does not take away his right of carrying on his studies, and he can continue studying. Such students now have the chance of completing their education through the education online learning system. The only right it takes away is being in the school premises so that he doesn’t harm others. With the need of education online learning, the Virtual Learning Academy has been set up to facilitate students better.
